1. Where do I start?

Pilates Fit offers a variety of options for people who are just starting out.

  • Our Private and Semi-Private sessions are ideal for students looking for one-on-one instruction that is specific to your individual fitness needs. All Private Packages include a full postural analysis as well as use of all Pilates apparatus.
  • Our Rehab Pilates program is ideal for any individual that would like to restore, maintain or enhance their body, fitness and overall health. Whether you're recovering from an injury or dealing with a chronic issue, your Certified Pilates Instructor and your Physiotherapist work together allowing the cost of your session to be recovered by your private health insurance. With regular reassessment by your Physiotherapist for progression and modification of your program, we ensure that your Rehab Pilates program helps you progress towards your goals.

2. What should I expect the first session?

During the first session you will learn the Basic Principles of Pilates.

  • Breathing
  • Pelvic Placement
  • Ribcage Placement
  • Shoulder Stability
  • Neck Placement

Each of these principles is incorporated in every Pilates exercise from beginner’s to advanced. We recommend that you wear loose, comfortable clothing, that will allow unrestricted movement. Bare feet or socks is best!

3. How often should I do Pilates?

The amount of Pilates you do each week depends on your personal goals. You will see results more quickly if you do Pilates more frequently. We recommend doing at least one session per week at the studio with an additional 2x/wk at home. Our Private Sessions will provide you with a complete body workout. Combined with cardio workouts, Pilates will keep your body well balanced.

4. How does Pilates improve posture?

Pilates improves posture by strengthening your back muscles allowing you to stand taller. It lengthens and tightens abdominals, which alleviates the load on your back helping to relieve low back pain. It builds midback strength to aid in drawing your shoulders back and opening across your chest. As a result, you become stronger and more stable throughout your postural muscles. Pilates also incorporates an efficient and effective style of breathing that rejuvates and revitalizes you throughout the day.

5. Why take Pilates at a studio rather than a fitness club?

While you may be receiving good instruction in a club, these classes are often so large that they cannot accommodate individual needs and may not reflect the holistic philosophy of Pilates. As well, most fitness clubs do not offer sessions with the Pilates apparatus, such as Reformers. At Pilates Fit, your instructor is able to provide individual attention and modifications if required. A qualified instructor and personalized programs are required to correctly understand and safely execute Pilates exercises. At our studio, your Pilates workout will be safe, effective and challenging. You will leave with overall sense of balance and well-being.
